The perfect blend of modern and standard
You’ll get your instrument license in our Cessna 172-S. Those familiar gauges from your Private will still be there, giving you an anchor in your fast-paced training. You’ll also have a new toy to play with: a double stack of the Garmin 430 GPS. Transitioning to any other airplane, whether full glass or an IFR antique, will be a breeze.
Deep in the system, or on the fringe
Every pilot should train like they fly. At Sonoma Skypark, you’ll learn how to fly on an instrument flight plan in or out of an uncontrolled field. 97% of the airports in the United States are nontowered. It just makes sense to learn how to get in and out when the weather is bad. You’ll also get your share of controlled fields, with 3 different towered airports nearby.
More than a mill
At Carneros Aviation, every student has a real relationship with their instructor. You’ll have someone who isn’t just concerned about you passing, but is concerned about you. And, every bit of care matters when you’re in real IMC.
The spice of life
Variety is the key to a well-rounded pilot. We have access to 20 different instrument approaches at 6 different airports within 15 minutes of Skypark. No two of your training flights will ever look the same, and you’ll always be ready to expect the unexpected.
Practice like you play
We believe in real instrument flying throughout your training. Our coastal patterns will bring in plenty of stable, low, clouds for you to play around. The hood is a great training tool, but there’s nothing like the real thing.
